This post pertains to the Ambition tournament<\/a> planned for the eve of Clojure\/West<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What?<\/strong>:We’ll be playing the card game, Ambition<\/a>\u00a0(follow link for rules) using a modified format capable of handling any number of players (from 4 to\u00a0\u221e).<\/p>\n

When?<\/strong> Sunday, March 23.<\/strong>\u00a0Start time will be 5:17pm<\/strong> (17:17) Pacific time. I’ll be going over the rules in person at 5:00pm. You should plan to show up at 5:00 if you have any questions or need clarification, since I’d like to start play on time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How long?<\/strong> About 2.5 to 3.5 hours at expected size (6-8 people). Less with fewer people, not much more with a larger group (because play can occur in parallel).<\/p>\n

Where?<\/strong>\u00a0At or near the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. I’ll tweet a specific location that afternoon, around and probably not later than 4:30.<\/p>\n

Who?<\/strong> Based on expressed interest, I’d guess somewhere between 5 and 10 people. If only 4, we’ll play a regular game. If fewer, we may cancel and reschedule.<\/p>\n

Is there food?<\/strong> We’ll break around 7:00pm and figure something out.<\/p>\n

Do I need prior experience with Ambition?<\/strong> Absolutely not. There will be more new players than experienced people. Ambition is more skill than luck, but I’ve also seen brand new players win 8+ person tournaments.<\/p>\n

Do I need to be attending Clojure\/West to join?<\/strong> No. This isn’t officially affiliated with Clojure\/West and you need not be attending the conference to play. It just happens that a lot of the people playing in this tournament will also be attending Clojure\/West.<\/p>\n

How should I RSVP?<\/strong> “Purchase” a free ticket on the EventBrite page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Can I come if I don’t RSVP? Can I invite friends?<\/strong> Yes and yes.<\/p>\n

Are there any prizes?<\/strong>\u00a0Very possibly…<\/p>\n

Will you (Michael O. Church) be playing?<\/strong>\u00a0That depends on how many people there are (if this is a home run and gets 12+ people, I’ll be too busy with administrative stuff). I’ll probably sit in the final rounds but I won’t be eligible to win any prizes.<\/p>\n
